Why, right here on this spaceship, of course. Now what kind of silly question is that?
Okay, aside from that--I suppose if I were back on earth, I'd want to live somewhere near the an ocean. I love the sea, I love swimming and I love taking long walks on the beach. I'd like to be near the mountains, too, so I can go hiking and rock climbing. Plus I'd like a big city to be not too far away, so that I can go and do city stuff. Not too often, just once in a while.
Basically, anyplace as long it wasn't a desert. I think I've had enough of that.

I handle them just fine, thank you very much. I do my best to defuse the situation by discussing the issue at hand in a calm, quiet voice, and I always listen to what the other person has to say. And I behave in a perfectly reasonable manner. Really I do.
Okay, so sometimes I get a little excited.
Hey, what's so funny?

The most important decision I ever made was to help out Commander Archer back when I was a Lieutenant on Captain Jefferies' engineering team. Back on earth. We almost never made it out into space, because of problems with the engine control. We couldn't keep the subspace field stabilized on the warp drive. It was all in the intermix, but the Vulcans didn't want to hear it. They were leaning on Forrester to put the NX-program on hold.
So I helped Archer and Robinson when they needed to prove that the engine was just fine. They flew the NX-beta right out of the damn hanger. Went to Warp 2.5 as pretty as you please.
Got into a shitload of trouble for it, too. But hey, it worked, it got us into space.

What three things would I bring if I were left on a deserted island?
Well, reading over some of my shipmate's entries, I'm thinkin' I'd take Major Hayes and his supplies with me. He sounds like he's got it all figured out. No sense re-inventing the wheel, my momma always used to say.
That would leave me with two more items....let's see, definitely my harmonic collection (that counts as one, doesn't it?), and--oh yeah, sunscreen. The major looks like he'd sunburn real easily.

Hearing, sight, taste, touch, and smell: the five senses. Which would be the worst one for you to lose, and why?
The one that would affect my ability to do my job the most--sight. Can't run a warp engine if you can't see the damn thing. Of course, I'd hate to lose any of them. Imagine not being able to touch anything--not being able to feel the warmth of another person's skin, or the softness of Porthos' fur. Or not being able to hear music, or taste Chef's damn good food.
Now that would be a damn shame.

What's your favorite daydream?
Can't say that I've got a whole lot of time for things like daydreams. This ship keeps me pretty damn busy. But there is one daydream I've always loved, every since I was a kid. And it comes back to me every now and then. I dream that I'm Superman. Oh, come on now, don't laugh. I think it's the flying--who wouldn't want to be able to fly like that? Just leap out a window, soar up through the air, up above everyone else, flying free under your own steam. I can't think of anything more liberating.
Okay, the x-ray vision would be pretty cool, too. And having bullets bounce off of you like that. As you fly by.
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need some ice cream.

What do I want on my tombstone? That's an easy one. I want it to read, in great big letters "Chief Engineer of Enterprise NX-01". Serving on Enterprise is one of the biggest thrills, and greatest honor of my life.
I can't imagine anything else that could possibly top that.

What makes me laugh?
Just being around people that I like being around. When we're relaxing, having a good old time. It doesn't having to be anything special. It's the little things I enjoy, like listening to Travis tell scary stories around the campfire, or T'Pol telling me and the Captain a tall tale over dinner about the first Vulcans on earth. She really had us going there. (Don't tell her I said that). Hoshi teasing Travis, the Captain getting all excited over his latest water polo vid, (I still haven't figure that game out), Malcolm waxing poetic over his latest phase pistol upgrade. He just gets this little twinkle in his eye every time the subject comes up.
Even Major Hayes can make me smile with his wisecracks. Sure, he's always playing the tough guy, but you know, sometimes I can see that he's trying just a little too hard.

If I could have dinner with anyone in history? I think it would have to be Winston Churchill. He was an amazing man. I'm sure everyone's heard of him. Prime Minister of Britain during World War II? He also served in the British army, writing reports from the field, before he went into politics. And he wrote lots of books, from campaign reports to the history of World War I and World War II. He helped get Britain, and most of the world, through one of its darkest moments. When you think about it--watching Europe fall to the Germans--it's hard to imagine what that was like, how frightening it must have been. Up until now I would have said it's hard to imagine a war on that scale, but now we really are facing our own dark moment. Anyway, Churchill was around to see some important moments in history, events that shaped the world as we know it today.
Not to mention that he was a real smartass. I would just love to sit and share some bourbon with the man. And just listen.
Oh, and by the way, Malcolm, before you start getting all British and smug on me, his mother was *American*. Just in case you didn't know.

Guilty pleasures?
Now there's a question that doesn't take a whole lot of thinking about. My one real guilty pleasure is watching movies. Old, twentieth century classics. There's nothing better than losing yourself in far away times and places. I love them all, whether it's a murder mystery, suspense, horror, or romance. But I think I love the romances best. Just give me Ingrid Bergman or Betty Davis or Bogart or, oh, hell, I love them all. Beautiful woman, dashing, handsome men, it all works for me. As a matter of fact, I can't tell you my exact favorite because it changes from week to week.
Nothing like a good movie, I tell you.
That's about it.
Well, aside from thing with the warp reactor. It kind of hums and vibrates, so if you get up close...it's kind of...oh, never mind. I don't know what I'm trying to say.

How did I lose my virginity? ::blushes::
You know, a gentleman doesn't kiss and tell. Or do anything else and tell.
Damn, that was a long time ago. More like a lifetime ago. To be that young again, without a care in the world. I think I spent every night on the beach that summer. That sand got everywhere, I swear, it found its way into every damn orifice. That was like the biggest worry we had--who found the biggest blanket, and who got to be in the middle. So you didn't end up being pushed off the edge. I did some crazy stuff back then. Just wanted to experience it all, everything life had to offer.
And afterwards I'd lay on my back and stare at the stars in the night sky, thinking that someday I just might be right up there with them.

What's more important -- self-preservation or forgiveness?
Funny you should ask that. Not so long ago I would have said forgiveness is the most important thing. That was the way I was raised, to forgive and forget. But that was before this whole Xindi thing happened. Hell, I'm not even sure self-preservation is all that important anymore. Our mission now is more important than I am. It's bigger than any of us. Staying alive long enough to accomplish our goals, to prevent the destruction of earth and mankind is all that really matters now. And I don't really expect to be returning from this mission.
Just like I don't really think I'll ever be able to forgive them for killing my sister.

Is there ever a good reason to get blindingly drunk?
I know for sure one damn good reason to get blindingly drunk--when you are stranded on Shuttlepod One, thinking that Enterprise has been destroyed, and the man stranded with you is hell-bent on driving you crazy. If that isn't a fine reason to get drunk out of your gourd, I don't know what is.
All other reasons pale by comparison.
I mean, who brings along Ulysses to read on a mission?
All right, I suppose the whole thing gave me a chance to get to know Malcolm a little better. And I respect the man, I really do. It's just that he's so--he's so--oh, hell, I don't know. He just gets under my skin sometimes.

Do you feel that you were born with a predetermined role in society? If so, how do you feel about it?
Funny, some folks seem to believe that we're all born with some sort of predetermined role in our society. But I'm not buying that, you know? Life is what you make it. We're all free to make our own damn decisions. Like me serving on this here mission. I decided that. Because Jonathan Archer asked me to. Now of course all we were supposed to do at first was return that Klingon, Klaang, to his home, but then after that our trip became a mission of exploration. Wasn't what I had expected, but I had hoped for it, and it's the most exciting thing that ever happened to me. And now--now we are out in the Expanse, trying to prevent a war with the Xindi, and I hadn't exactly planned that, either. I mean, there wasn't any question of me choosing to fight, especially after they killed my little sister...and I wouldn't be able to fight at all if I hadn't been on Enterprise in the first place...oh hell...maybe...
::frowns::
Pardon me, but I think--I must be needed down in engineering. Or something.

Hello, Commander Charles Tucker III here. Although everyone calls me "Trip". I'm the Chief Engineer of Enterprise NX-01. Yup, our first warp 5 engine. I'm mighty proud of it. And I'm mighty proud to be serving with such a great crew. I first met our captain, Jonathan Archer back during the NX test program, and we've been friends ever since. He's gotten me out of a lot of tight spots. And then there's Subcommander T'Pol, she's our Science Officer. She's really not all that bad for a Vulcan. I'm kind of warming up to her. Our Communications Officer is Ensign Sato, she's real bright, and our Helmsman, Ensign Mayweather, is one damn good pilot. It's a great honor to be serving with all these folks.
Oh, yeah, uh, Malcolm. Lieutenant Reed, that is. He's our Tactical Officer. We're friends, of a sort. Sometimes he kind of bugs me, you know? He can be so fussy and prickly. And proper. A little uptight, if you ask me.
But anyways, we're the first humans ever to be exploring so far in space, and the things we've seen so far--well, it's just amazing. Can't say we've made a whole lot of friends just yet, though. We've made a few mistakes, but we're learning. It's been a hell of an adventure so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
